A B S T R A C T

This Review aims to find fishing gear and methods of longline Operating are generally operating at Southern Ocean Tarakan Island. The method used is descriptive method of collecting data by recording all the elements that become the object of review (literature study), interviews and observations (direct observation). In general, the longline operations at Southern Ocean Tarakan Island is a basic longline (Bottom long line). The method is passive fishing and the principles of fish with bait. The Operating longline method consists of three stages among others the setting (gear reduction), soaking (soaking gear, ± 2 hours) and hauling (withdrawal of fishing gear). Dimensions long line fishing gear the normally operate consists of cork floats (length: 30-40 cm), anchor line (Length: 35 m), ballast line Trailers (weight: 2 kg), the main anchor (weight: 3 kg ), length of the top line (length: 400 m), branch line(length: 50 m), hook No.7 amount 200-300.

A B S T R A C T

Juata waters is the side of Tarakan Island and it has high biodiversity. The water quality have important rules in this waters as indicator type of waters. Considering that condition a study of water quality condition was very importance. This study was studied from Mei until December  2009.  Sampel waters collected at intertidal area  with survey method and stratified systematic sampling. In each location divided based on 2 station area every take the sample.  From physical  parameters condition were founded that transparency about 170 cm until 215 cm, temperature 30 until 31oC and speed of current about 0.31 m/s - 0,61 m/s. Type of tidal in juata waters is Mixed Tide Prevailing Semi Diurnal. Chemical parameters water condition were founded that  salinity is about 18.8 until 24.3 promil, pH obout 7.82 - 8.02, Dissolved oxygen (DO) obout 5.17 until 6.50 mg/l, conductor of electicity  about  30.1 mS/cm - 38.3 mS/cm, nitrat content about 0,1 mg/l until 0,8 mg/l and fosfat content about 0.38 mg/l until  0.64 mg/l. From this research faounded that nitrat and fosfat content  is inversly with  plankton abundance.

A B S T R A C T

The use of bait in fishing operation attached to a fishing gear has function to attract or stimulate fish, so as to increase the fishing effectiveness. Study on catching effectiveness of grouper with basket pot by using artificial bait is urgently needed. The objectives of this study were to analysis soaking time of the artificial bait that effectively to attract grouper and to measure the effectiveness of the artificial baits to catch grouper by using basket pot. The fishing experiment methods were used in this study. The use of the artificial bait in different soaking time (day and night) has not significantly different to the grouper catch. The use of natural bait (shrimp and trash fish), however was more effective than the artificial bait to catch grouper.

A B S T R A C T

Nowadays we were facing to the global warming which is causing climate changes. Global warming also promote by environmental degradation. Increment of human population and development on industrial realm are the main cause of environmental degradation. Wetland is one of environmental bufferwhich could enhance the environmental stress. Doing the wetland restoration is an effort to enhance ecological degradation. In this paper were discusses about wetland definition, functions, wetland restoration, effect of restoration and also some study cases of wetland restoration published by some researcher. Tidal Wetland Restoration itself could be defined as an actions taken in a converted or degraded natural wetland that result in the reestablishment of ecological processes, functions, and biotic/abiotic linkages and lead to a persistent, resilient system integrated within its landscape (Lewis, 1989). It must expect restoration could bring the better effluence to the ecology, however some time it’s not just happen like ideally. Some of the restoration activity could promote and lead the ecological degradation in the neighbor habitat from which restoration activity was conducted. Therefore to enhance the sustainability, restoration and good management should be applied in order and in good monitoring.

A B S T R A C T

Fish of puput is a kind of fish species found in the Juata waters of Tarakan City that many caught by local fishermen.  Fish of Puput frequently caught in the nets of local fishermen, especially around the Juata waters of Tarakan City, so that not rarely consider the fishing communities of this fish as a byproduct of fish because of low value (low-economically).
The research method is a method of survey and research conducted this study belong to the type of exploratory research is to collect as complete information about Fish of puput (Ilisha elongata) in the waters around City of Tarakan.
From the results research, the sex ratio between male and female fish is not an equilibrium that is 1: 3.1 where to fish of sex male as much as 33 tail and female sex of 102 tailThe growth rate of male fish amounted to 0.013 or 1.3% every three months, while for the coefficient of female fish growth rate amounted to 0.023 or 2.3% every three monthsThe rate of mortality from the catch of fishermen to fish the male sex has a value of about 2.2% every three months while the death rate from the catch of fishermen to fish the female type has a value of about 2.5% every three months.

Teleostei Fish, as members of other vertebrates have a body defense system when the body is infected by foreign agents from both types of bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. Fish has two defense systems that was natural defense system (innate immunity) and the adaptive defense system (adaptive immunity). Major Histo Compatibility (MHC) is a group or complex of genes that play a role in recognition and signaling between immune cells. T cell receptor (TCR) is an antigen that presented by MHC molecules, both MHC class I or class II MHC, to T cells and then bound by a receptor located on the surface of T cells Cytokines are soluble protein mediators (sometimes bound in the cell membrane ) which bind to receptors on cells target and trigger, regulate, or inhibit cellular functions. Detailed knowledge about the molecular expression of immune cells in fish can be used as a basic reference for designing the construction of peptide-based vaccines that are immunogenic and specifically identify a variety of viruses and bacteria that often infects fish.

A B S T R A C T

Indonesia is a country that is famous archipelago and the maritime countries which have a sea-based maritime wider than the mainland. Tarakan Island is a tropical region surrounded by the ocean with a very large sea of ​​potential, especially marine resources. The purpose of this study is comparation the low-economical of fish (Johnius Spp and Ilisha elongata) and high-economical of fish (Siganus javus and Caesio cunning) by analyzing the proteins using the weight of wet and dry weight. The method used in this research using descriptive research method. Laboratory analysis using Kjehdahl. The results of fish wet weight test low-lives of fish Ilisha elongata (33.07%) and fish Johnius Spp (16.59%) while the high-economic fish species namely fish Caesio cunning (30.86%) and fish Siganus javus (18.53%). Test dry weight of the fish lives of low-species Ilisha elongata (77.46%) and fish species Johnius Spp (72,73%), whereas the high-economical of fish from fish species Caesio cunning (77.12%) and from fish species Siganus javus (69.19%).

A B S T R A C T

Sea surface temperature (SST) and rainfall characteristics in Indonesia are reviewed and are discussed.  The paper focuses on the following topics : SST and rainfall characteristics ; and coupled SST-rainfall. It concludes that SST has its sensitivity to rainfall with the peak during April and the lowest during August.  Meanwhile, rainfall has three different regions with decreasing trend in the last few decades.  SST-rainfall interaction possible related to large scale climate drivers.

This article studies about social change from in perpective of historical sosio of community who live in region Delta Mahakam Kalimantan Timur. Social change from coastal area community Delta Mahakam in the form of institution change influencing social system, has lessened local area carrying capacity is affecting high of resources degradation which is mangrove area is wide in world.  This article substance, that change of community social Delta Mahakam started by some complex social processes like resident increase, contradiction (conflict and integration) between group and community communications process Delta Mahakam with other community having different in perpective background about Delta Mahakam. Social Management Approach Based On Trust Communication between the parties is having importance is alternative submitted in this article end.
